Fun Science - The Game to Demonstrate the Vertical Air-Pressure

Science Project to Demonstrate The Presence of Vertical Air-Pressure

Fun Science for Kids - School Student

Today man can't move a step forward without the help of science. So, science is one of the main subjects in school curriculum but students take it as a dry subject. In fact, our students are not getting science education in a proper way as there is lack of trained teachers, skillful teacher and lack of materials needed for practical.
How far it is relevant to teach science through rote learning, when the saying says practical knowledge is better than theoretical knowledge, one question is always in front of us. Therefore, it is our responsibility to prepare the students mentally for science study with useful skills.
In this Post, we find the use of things around our houses, which are thought useless, can be used for science practicals.
Below are the list of practical that are prepared for students. Some of our topic related to these are - Elementary Science Project, Science Project for Kids, Stem Fair ideas, Fun Science etc.

Necessary Materials - Demonstrate the vertical air-pressure.

  • A vessel with countenance open
  • A gas-jar or a glass.
  • A postcard or a greetings card.
  • Water about 2-3 litres.

Preparation: How to demonstrate the vertical air pressure?

Perceive that the glass (or the gas-jar) completely sinks into the water of the vessel or not and accordingly fill the vessel with water. Practice it for 2-3 times.

How to Present the Game of Vertical Air-Pressure:

Fill the vessel with 2-3 litres of water and put the glass, in slanting position, smoothly into the vessel. The glass gets filled with water.
Then, place the postcard on the lower surface of the vessel and set the glass upright with the other hand smoothly. Notice that the glass should not come above the water level and it should be placed right over the postcard. In this way, hold out the postcard with a hand while the glass with the other take them out of the vessel. Now, remove the hand that is holding the postcard, and hold out the glass. What happened?

Surely, the postcard blocked the water of the glass. As the water, in this way, doesn't fall for a few moments, your friend will assume it as an interesting item of the magic.

Scientific Conclusion from The game of air-pressure:

Knowledge about the existence of atmospheric pressure.

The Scientific Reason - How Vertical Pressure Block the Flow of Water?

This game is related to the atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric Pressure occurs from all around. Hence, the water of the glass is pressed from all sides. Consequently, the postcard placed under the the opening of the glass gets pressed vertically. As the atmospheric pressure exerted vertically against the water is more than the pressure of the water, the postcard holds out the water and doesn't let it fall or spill.
